Considering the pending GM bankruptcy and growing US debt, I thought the President’s date-night in Manhattan on Saturday night was a bit tone-deaf. And, after talking to several top political reporters over the weekend, I wasn’t the only one. Much of the coverage of the visit included points made by the Republican National Committee, and at today’s press briefing, Robert Gibbs was asked how much the trip cost taxpayers. (He ducked the answer.)

Not only did coverage of the trip dominate much of the weekend media, it seems likely to be fodder for late-night comics this week.
