Barack Obama may insist that political attacks don’t bother him, but you could fool me. In fact, I was continually surprised during the campaign how frequently he would feel compelled to respond to Republicans’ attacks – often giving our message legs when it otherwise would be ignored.
My favorite example is Obama’s suggestion last summer that inflating drivers’ tires would save more oil than off-shore drilling could produce, something Republicans mocked by sending reporters tire gauges labeled “Obama’s Energy Plan”. Today, nearly a year later, he still has not acquiesced on the point:
